Today, I’m
going to talk briefly about cell phone addiction because I’m always getting
told by my parents that I use my phone too much. Even though I have to admit they’re right
some of the time, it doesn’t make me use my phone any less. Maybe I am
addicted… There are, however, some disturbing facts : studies show that
78% of teens and even 69% of adults check their phones hourly. An average
person checks their phone 110 times a day, whereas the more addicted people can
check their phones up to 900 times a day ! Another fact which I can really
relate to is that people bring their phones absolutely everywhere with them, even to the bathroom. Most people also sleep
with their phone right next to them. In most cases, the first thing in the
morning and the last thing at night people will do, is use their cell phones.
This addictive behavior can lead to many health-related problems including an
increased risk of brain cancer, an inability to concentrate and several mental
health problems. Another study indicates that parents who spend more time with
their phones have a greater tendency to shout at their children but most
importantly we know that many car accidents are caused by cell phone use. I’ve
seen that rehab facilities have started treating people diagnosed with cell
phone addiction, making sure that they have very limited or no exposure to cell
phones while they are there, and providing them with the necessary solutions to
limit their exposure once they are out of the rehab facilities. I hope I never
have to go to that extreme. I’m kind of motivated now to use my phone less…

Woah quite weird.. I think we're all kind of addicted to it though. It's never too late to change so let's try not to use our phones for one day? Marion
